Rand, Speed win Mid-Winter Classic

With the U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials less than four weeks away, Matt Rand of Portland tuned up Sunday by winning the Mid-Winter 10-Mile Classic in Cape Elizabeth.

Rand, 28, finished in 52 minutes, 32 seconds – nearly a minute ahead of runner-up Sam Seekins (53:27), a Maine native who now lives in Hanover, N.H. Michael Gordon, 41, of Portland was third in 53:44.

Gretchen Speed, 38, of Portland was the overall women’s winner in 1:04:02, followed by Maddie Leopold of Pawling, N.Y. (1:04:58) and Sally Dupere of Newtonville, Mass. (1:05:02). From the Maine Track Club Website!
